New DirecTV/Power Line Options For Work From Home Business Broadband?

May 15, 2007 by Chuck | 0 Comments

DirecTV may be the next company to try broadband on power lines. I’ve reported on this before when other companies entered the field.

Testing could come in a major city as early as next year, though in my opinon the technology holds the most promise for folks not already served by traditional cable or broadband.

The tests come as local cable companies are effectively bundling cable, internet, and Voip phone service. This leaves satellite providers who offer TV only or who offer satellite broadband at outrageous prices and low speeds at a disadvantage.

Most homes not served by broadband or cable have electrical service if they’re operating a business.

The alternative to progress in this area was also hinted at in the article by reuters… if companies like AT&T or Verizon sniff too much competition on broadband, they could just buy up DirecTV and minimize their competition - like petroleum companies investing in “alternative energy”.
