Currently the number of teleworkers is estimated at 26 million. Will the number quadruple in 2.5 years? I think it was just quoted to boost home office furniture sales personally. But undoubtedly the numbers will increase as access to broadband and voip increase.

Things like the melted overpass in San Francisco and catastrophic disaster planning are a boon for teleworking. Companies in San Francisco with disaster plans that included telecommuting are getting to test them!
So I really doubt this claim, but who knows… they might be right.
The International Telework Association and Council estimates that by 2010, the number of U.S. employees teleworking will increase from the current 26 million to 100 million. Since many positive outcomes result from more workers staying at home — like saved fuel, decreased traffic congestion and reduced greenhouse gas emissions — setting up a home office can be an important investment.
