Here are tips to get that blog off the ground and build readership according to a pro - Darren Rowse from Problogger.net. He has a great article: “Help me, my mom is my blog’s only reader!”-By Darren Rowse

Salient points….

1. Blog readership is like money, the more you have the more you still want. Even blogs with 70,000 readers per day ask him how to “go to the next level”.

2. Find the online sites/forums/communities/bigger blogs on same subject, etc. that already attract your readers and figure out how to work with that site and get readers to your blog on their own. I.e. forum participation, submitting articles, joint ventures, advertising, etc. (Be sure to click through and read his tips on this one point… very good.)

3. Learn and practice basic search enging optimization. (He really didn’t sound too impressed by search engine traffic! He seemed to treat it more like icing on the cake.)

4. Work at getting Reader Recommendations

5. Don’t forget the links from smaller blogs. They can really help over time.

6. Bonus Tip: “Live with an Attitude of Openness to Opportunity”
