Are You A WiFi Squatter?

That’s someone who works from their laptop some place with free Wi Fi, but never patronizes the business.

Who are these new cybervagrants trying to get something for nothing? According to one tech expert

“They spend the whole day there but only spend three or four dollars worth of stuff for 8 hours of access,” he said. “That’s pushing the limit to a degree — and every company has a different policy for how they deal with that, whether they even perceive it as a problem or not.”

Though presumably wifi hot spots build the cost of wifi into their overhead, “there’s no such thing as a free lunch” and wifi access is still paid for by customers.

You’d think common courtesy would apply and customers wouldn’t assume it was right to use wifi access for hours without a purchase, but common courtesy is growing less and less common it seems.
