SBA – Government Contracts For Small Business Announcement

The Austin Business Journal reports that the Small Business Administration will be implementing a plan to channel government contracts to women owned businesses. It’s only 6 years late. Good thing that women in the work at home field don’t have to rely on the government to allow them to get started. If you’d been waiting for this plan, you still wouldn’t have any business.

The agency will release a study in April that identifies industries where women have been underrepresented, says SBA Deputy Administrator Jovita Carranza. Under the new program, federal agencies can set aside contracts in those industries for women-owned businesses.

Congress in 2000 directed the SBA to establish the women’s contracting program as a way of helping the federal government reach its goal of awarding at least 5 percent of its prime contracting dollars to women-owned businesses…
