I’ve been playing around with some traffic exchanges… Hitgusher for one and Magnify Traffic.
I like them for different reasons.
I like Hitgusher because the traffic is pretty evenly distributed. The monthly hits I obtained with the membership were spread out over days and are still coming in… not done overnight like some small exchanges where you can buy views and 1000 are done in one day… the same people seeing your page a dozen times. Another way I judge this is through the number of unique visitors. If my number of unique visitors spikes, I would know the same people are visiting again and again. Using Hitgusher hasn’t seemed to cause a problem in this regard.
Since I’m trying to get newbies to come back and read, this definitely taps the newbie market and I hope the pages I display (I show a variety that I trust will help newbies) that will keep them coming back for more.
I like Magnify Traffic for another reason. I purchased a paid membership that does give a pretty good number of hits per month without any surfing.
But I also use Magnify Traffic to see “what’s out there” and what the “newbies” are rushing into.
The thing I like about Magnify Traffic is that with the plan I purchased, my sites get not only 1 view per click… I’ve gotten up to 1.4 views per pages I’ve surfed. I’m lazy what can I say.
More later. That’s how it’s going so far.

Don’t forget that repetition is necessary. People generally won’t act on an advertisement the first time they see it, so having unique traffic is important - but so is repeat visitors
I run StartXchange and you can download a traffic exchange manual pdf free when you sign up.. It contains some tips you might like =P
