Are you a total introvert who can’t make cold calls to save your life (or business)? But once people meet you you seem to be able to pick up business and take orders?
If that’s the case you need some way to mobilize massive numbers of people to get to know you. It’s hard. You have to seek innovative ways… and usually the best way is to talk about stuff that interests THEM not just things that interest you (like selling your product or service).
Here’s something you might try. I’d pick a non controversial topic so you don’t make your business an object of PROTEST instead of PATRONAGE!
There’s quite a bit of buzz about “Transit Camp”. Some Toronto residents got together to brainstorm ways to improve the Toronto Transit system.
Instead of just being a “complaint department” they wanted to become a “solutions playground”.
You can read more about it here at worldchanging.com
As an “unconference”, it’s designed to be – pop phrase warning – a “leaderless” organization and has these 3 rules as a “camp”:
- Everyone participates.
- Leaders can emerge from anywhere.
- We are all equals in an open community.
If you have a pet peeve and a way to make money online (or way to make money offline if you’re setting up a forum that addresses a local issue) perhaps you could facilitate a “camp”.
I saw someone else try to take the concept online using a free wiki site, PBwiki.com
Maybe facilitating a “campe” is the fun and rewarding method you need to “prospect” and develop contacts who will begin to know like and trust you and do business with you?
