Is Your Online Christian Website Selling X-Rated Movies?

Lots of ministries, ministers, or individuals with websites (like some work at home moms I know!) seek to supplement their income by selling books through affiliate programs.

One Christian Online Book seller got a good deal of bad press (and free visits too!) from the fact that customers there were pulling up X-rated books and movies when, obviously, they’d gone there for a “family friendly” experience!

Was some lewd and lascivious person using a religious facade as a lure? Not this time.

It turns out that Amazon.com is the culprit according to WorldNetDaily.com.

Marty Svare, the owner of the site, based in Bemidji, Minn., told WND that the Christian bookstore was a goal he’d had for a long time, and it was set up through another company that used Amazon-originated software to run searches. His site was built using a service called www.ChristianBookNet.com, which bills itself as an “online Christian bookstore solution provider for churches, ministries and Christian individuals.”

Officials there did not return WND requests for comment, but their online pages confirm that their system is based “upon Amazon.com’s Web Services API (Application Programming Interface).”

Word to the wise… even though I’ve seen some Amazon.com “A Store” links coming up pretty well in search engines for some titles, if you’re concerned about a situation like this happening to you (and lots of work at home mom’s are!) it may be time to start recommending individual titles instead of giving Amazon.com’s API a free reign unless Amazon.com comes up with some “no adult content” option.
