Can Zigire create a social networking site from scratch in just 4 days?

Zigire is one of many people wanting to sponsor a post on this blog to get exposure for their website. Most of the time you see these requests like this and you yawn.

But this caught my eye… the challenge of creating a social networking site in just 4 days. So I said “OK”… “I’d love to tell the world what you’re up to!”

The granddaddy of social networking sites is the lowly forum and classified site on compuserve… popularized for the Web 2.0 world by Craigslist with its ads and forums.

The hottest social networking site (or the one getting all the press anyway) is MySpace.

Still if they catch on… you’ve got tons of traffic, repeat visitors, and the potential for a good business.

The experiment started underway January 9th. I’m just reading the posts on it and it sounds like a perfect concept…a site where people can go to gripe (or is that “Winge”? I can’t tell where the accent’s from… Does Australian for gripe “Winging” have an “e” in it’s non participial form? I don’t know.)

But people will go there to gripe, vote on what they want to “banish forever” and then be able to have a great big online gripe fest.

Zigire’s not hoping to make any money, he’s just experimenting. You can check on the progress here.
