Telecommuting Takes Her To The Top Of Her Profession

Heather Mitchell moved to Bloomsburg PA to help out her husband’s career and stay home with her child.

“The decision to move to Pennsylvania was a very hard one,� Mitchell says. “It was about family and about opportunities for my husband.�

But firm founder John Boudreaux knew he didn’t want to lose the talented architect. So he asked her to stay on part time and telecommute.

The leap of faith paid off as Mitchell essentially established a one-woman branch office in her home, working on existing projects and drawing new business.

Among her projects was The Children’s Museum in Bloomsburg. The small nonprofit organization had bought an old fire station, similar to the Vista fire station, to renovate.

Bloomsburg was “a great balancing opportunity for me,â€? Mitchell says. “I was able to work out of my house and to spend time with my children when they were really young, but still really keep my feet in the profession.”
