Google Is Set To Expand Newspaper Advertising Program

It’s a brilliant idea. Buy up “remainder space” in huge newspapers so that the newspapers have the steady daily income they need to keep in business and sell it for premium through a bidding mechanism.

The newspapers – screaming for help as the Internet eats away at their readership and ad revenue – have the print space. Google has the mechanism to find bidders… people already bidding for ad space on the Google network.

But will it work?

Now the program is expanding according to the Washington Post. The program targets small merchants who already use Google to advertise online and who likely would never dream of advertising in a major daily newspaper. Since they advertise online anyway and have a website, they already have a mechanism in place to serve newspaper readers who need simply dial a toll free number or go online.

Though Google seems all agoggle at the prospects, newspapers are more cautious in their response.

Since it’s a bidding mechanism, you may land your ad at the right time in a major paper and get a whole new gaggle of customers for your small or work at home business. Master the art of capturing client data via freebies before you advertise and this might work wonders for your business in attracting real buyers who may be responsive to email and direct mail.
