I used to know John Commuta, and he is a great man. What does it matter where he got his theory or some of his techniques? His program was taught through individual consultations and seminars, and yes, it was an MLM opportunity for some, but some who were trained by him operated on their own license without a downline. I was trained by him in the 1990s, and it was tough because although the economy was tough, people were still piling on the home equity lines of credit and the loans for up to 125% of home value, sub-prime! And now we're paying bigtime for it. I could see trouble coming, but I didn't take enough risks with my opportunities and never got anywhere with the business. But I am passionate about his method, and there is nothing dishonest about it. His brother, Tim, had some ideas and took the company in what I thought was a misguided direction - they had taught not borrowing to consolidate but to use a "snowballling" mathod to pay down debt, but that took a lot more self-discipline than many had. (I did meet a number of people personally who did pay off all their debts including the mortgage, though!) So they got involved with organizations who handled the payments of the debts and suggested some borrowing. Getting away from te core principles hurt them, I think, plus some other "multiple streams of income" ventures and the company filed for bankruptcy. John went off on his own and just wrote for a while, I believe, Now heis back with his method, but there a many others out there now teaching pretty much the same thing. I was licened to teach the program in consultations or seminars, and I still have a passion to do that, but with the bankruptcy I suppose my license is worthless, I am looking for a business opportunity where I can do that now that I am retired and have the time to devote to it and the need is greater than ever. Can you believe that back when I was in the business no one else was recommending paying off the mortgage? I mean NONE of the big names in finances or controlling debt. I see a lot of that teaching now, though! Boy, did I miss out on a big one-time opportunity!

I am familiar with John Commuta. To be honest, the best that he offers he "borrowed" from the late Charles Givens of the Givens Organization. Essentially, you rearrange your personal finances, get rid of rip off insurances, use balance transfers on your credit cards, make principal payments on your home mortgage and car payments, reduce taxes and so on. Does it work? YES! Can anybody do it? Probably but many will not. Rather than spend the high cost of Cammuta's course, I would recomend that you pick up Charles Given's materials for a few dollars on Ebay. His books Wealth Without Risk, Financial Self Defense and More Wealth Without Risk can be found in most libraries. You may also want to contact IAS Financial, the organization that took over the Givens Organization. Their website is www.iasfinancial.com Hope this helps. The information is more needed now than ever.

No Dave, I'm not really aware of any home biz opps related to debt elimination. They do seem to come and go... Commuta or someone like him (I can't remember) had an MLM based on debt elimination, etc.

There's always something strange about a program like that which basically charges a monthly fee for a newsletter. I've never seen one last but if I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will let me know. Probably just before that one goes bust too.

Hi Chuck!

While Googling around tonight, I found your blog post about John Cummuta and how he helps people get out of debt. Unfortunately, the links took me to some "Surfbounty" site rather than to John's offering.

Are you aware of any home business opportunities that center around the topics of debt reduction, money management, investing, etc? Financial Freedom Society (Retire Quickly) used to be one option, but it appears they have discontinued the biz opp.

Thanks!
