Freaky PayPal Action Has Marketers Looking At Other Alternatives

December 7, 2006 by Chuck | 2 Comments

Just got a weird email from a friend of mine I’ll keep nameless to avoid more troubles for him.

Basically he’s been out of business online thanks to PayPal capriciously closing his account.

He got one of those emails “Your Pay Pal account has been limited”.

99.99% of those emails are bogus phishing emails, but he must be the 0.01% that are genuine.

So his account has been shut out for hours over alleged violations of their “terms of service”.

When  he contacted them, of course, he got no response… then some form letter that said “sorry for any screw up”.

His account is back on but he’s looking for alternatives FAST.

What would you recommend?

Sadly, with over 100,000,000 users PayPal is seen as the standard.

My choice would be 2CO, but my evidence shows me that PayPal is great for purchases under $20 – must be some sort of mental barrier where the user doesn’t mind spending such small amounts from PayPal – they don’t see it as a “real” purchase, just a bit of small change spending.
