Health Care is one of the issues facing self employed and home business people.
Here’s part of the insanity of the system.
A lady I know wast prescribed folic acid - 1 milligram per day.
This amount for some reason requires a prescription.
She has insurance, went to get the prescription, and paid a $5.00 copy for 30 tablets… 30 milligrams.
I was in Wal Mart last night and saw 0.8 milligrams of Folic Acid for sale. The bottle was big enough to hold at least 100 tablets.
It’s cost? $2.43.
Why wouldn’t a sane doctor tell someone to just get the 0.8 milligram tablet?
Because insurance can be “soaked” and because a prescription is required, a company somewhere can jack up the price of 1 milligram folic acid and charge a premium price that nobody in their right mind would pay at Wal Mart.
And now insurance is involved. What do you think the transaction costs are for paying the additional $1 or so on this folic acid?
If you’re in this situation, help yourself and help the system… see if you can go around the insurance company to get the same thereapeutic benefit (or more) for your money.
