Usually “experts” have less difficulty in attracting people who seek out their opinions. That means customers may flock to you depending on your business. “Expert” status can confer a continually expanding stream of free publicity, unsolicited referrals, and people seeking you out for your help and willing to pay.
How does one achieve this exalted status? Through Accident? Evolution? or Intentional Action?
Ultimately others will decide if you are worth consulting, but part of being perceived as an expert is through activity and intention.

Here are 13 ways that prospects can learn about you and your expertise, whether they are doing business down the street or thousands of miles away from you.
1. Writing Articles – Write articles on your subject of expertise in magazines, trade journals, newspapers, on-line publications and newsletters that your target audience reads.
2. Speeches – You can give speeches at your local community organizations and associations. You can add audio clips to your website for prospects to listen to. You can also add transcripts of your speeches for prospects to download and read.
3. Interviews – Getting interviewed by the media as an industry expert will help to increase your credibility and gain status as a recognized expert.
4. Seminars and Workshops – Offering free or paid seminars and workshops to your target audience enhances your credibility and exposure. You can take this opportunity to sell books, tapes, CDs, newsletter subscriptions and much more.
5. E-Classes – You can offer free or fee-based Email classes to prospects. You can have participants sign up and automatically send assignments by email and they can complete the assignment and return them by email.
6. TeleSeminars – You can rent a telephone called a “Bridge lineâ€? to host a teleseminar. Participants call in at a designated date and time. This is usually a one time call where you present your seminar over the telephone. You can host the teleseminars for free or charge a fee.
7. TeleClasses – Teleclasses also use a “Bridge line.â€? In teleclasses the classes are part lecture and part interactive for the students. These classes can be presented once or over a series of class meetings. You can also create a manual to send to participants before classes begin.
8. Reports – Reports can be written on specialized single topics and sold on your website. You can create the report, turn it into a pdf, add the report to your website, set a price and create a way for prospects to be able to buy your reports.
