Update: Can You Help A Prisoner Think Like An Entrepreneur?

September 26, 2006 by Chuck | 0 Comments

Thanks to all the bloggers who linked back to my original post asking for help in assisting prisoners to think like entrepreneurs!

From what I can tell we’ve had mention of this from all over the blogosphere all the way to Eastern Europe, Quebec, and Brazil.

Barry Moltz who was near the prison in Nashville at Belmont University for an Entrepreneurship confab is donating his new book You Need to Be a Little Crazy: The Truth About Starting and Growing Your Business

His book was the first to arrive! I know that because I got called from the correctional facility today to let me know about it! Here’s what I emailed to Barry:

Barry,I just wanted to let you know how appreciative Ms. Haddock at the South Central TN Correctional Facility is for the contribution of your book. They have very few resources and they were overwhelmed that someone from the “outside” would so generously help them!      Chuck Huckaby

There’s nothing worse than trying to accomplish a mission with NO BUDGET and few resources… I didn’t know till today just how much the program has to scrape together any resources to put a curriculum together!
Here are some statistics about the need for this help:

This year, an estimated 650,000 men and women will be released from prison across the United States. Because the vast majority of them have been simply warehoused, they are not ready for life on the outside. Indeed, many of them will come out more anti-social than when they went in. Little wonder, then, that two-thirds of those released are re-arrested within three years. Helping inmates helps us… the less likely someone is to reoffend, the safer we all are. The more people emerge from prison with a “productivity” and “service” mentality, the less likely the are to resort to the ultimate self service of crime.
