Australian Work At Home Moms

Mom’s working at home in Australia are there often from necessity. The labor market is quickly adapting because losing moms has caused a shortage of talented workers. Telecommuting and flex time is helping take up some of the slack.

From The Australian

In Australia, only 11.6 per cent of mothers with children younger than three work full time and 30 per cent part time. Just 16 per cent take full-time jobs before their child starts school. Nearly one in five employed mothers work at home and 44 per cent use flexible working hours to cope with the competing demands of work and family.

Concerned by the cost of losing skilled workers, some Australian employers - predominantly in the finance and computing sectors - are making every effort to keep their female staff happy. The ANZ bank offers 12 weeks’ maternity leave, regardless of length of service, and part-time work to pregnant staff or mothers of preschool children. The paid leave can be combined with a five-year unpaid “career break”.
