For some people the ideal home based business counseling children or some other activity best carried out as a non profit entity.
It’s not that these services don’t generate income… often significant income… but they’re not intended to create marketable equity for a public or private sale.
This is especially true if grants are sought. Despite all the junk on “Government Grants”… most won’t even look at you unless you’re “non profit”.
Setting up a traditional non profit corporation can be a real nightmare and take up to 9 months. The cost is about $3,000.
For solo entrepreneurs, that’s just too discouraging and a better option would be welcome.
If this describes you, then perhaps the National Heritage Foundation may be your answer.
For under $500 you can get started and for a small administrative fee they handle all government filings and even process your payroll.
