The recent discoveries of massive oil reserves in the US Gulf are not hampering voices wanting to cash in on the change to the “hydrogen” economy.
Because South Carolina labs studied hydrogen during the Cold War, the state hopes this preponderance of brain talent will make it the “center of the universe” for switching the US to hydrogen fuel with a resulting boom in the state’s economy should it become the technological oracle all other producers consult.
From Breitbart.com
The Savannah River National Laboratory, designated one of 12 national labs two years ago, boasts of having the nation’s largest collection of hydrogen experts. The lab’s initial mission was studying tritium, a hydrogen isotope used to boost nuclear bombs.
Its new research specialty is separating hydrogen from sources such as water and storing the element, normally a gas, onboard a vehicle in a safe, solid, lightweight form.
Factoid: Hydrogen fueled cars emit water vapor… expect this to lead to cries of “global dampening” ![]()
