Toni Berry answers the question… “My company will let me work from home… what advice can you give me about creating a home office?”
-Invest in good lighting for your home office. If you will be spending long hours at the desk, lighting is crucial. I recommend you have an electrician come and put incandescent down lighting in the ceiling. And a good desk lamp will help you work without tiring the eyes.
A good ergonomic office chair will also help. Don’t try to get by with a chair from the dining room. There is a lot to choose from in beautiful stylish fabrics, just perfect for home offices.

I should probably take that advise. I’ve been “getting by” with a chair from the dining room for two months now (since I started working from home). I did “improve” it by adding a throw pillow from the living room couch…

Interesting thoughts about the “comfy” work environment.
Good design and materials in an office environment helps one to be more efficient as well as more comfortable.
However my biggest productivity gains have revolved around dress.
I find that if one is working at home, dress like you would at the office. I used to put on a pair of shorts and a teashirt and sit on the couch with my cordless phone. Rarely at my home office desk. Acting on advice from a very successful insurance salesman friend of mine I “took the office dress code home”.
I shaved, and dressed impecably as if going to a business meeting, and I wanted to impress. But now l went instead to sit at my home office desk.
That monh was an experiment for me, based upon my friends advice.
I generated almost a 300% increase in gross revenue that month. Needless to say I now “dress for success” whenever I am associated with my business, whether at the office, or at home.
Good advice that has worked for me!
