An MLM Glossary - The Cynical View

July 7, 2006 by Chuck | 1 Comment

I was just reviewing all the MLM Spam in my in box today and decided to start an MLM Glossary for the uninformed. It’s cynical, but it’s not intended to be a blanket criticism of all MLM… just the email I get!
Your entries in the comment section are certainly welcome!

In MLM “Ground Floor” means “Nobody in the corporate world with real money thought this was a good idea, but we knew that with enough hype, distributors will buy anything at any price.”

In MLM “Pre Launch” means “We sure hope there will be a product soon. But in the mean time, just trust me!”

In MLM, “Proprietary product” (or exclusive product) all too often means … “You know the stuff everybody else has? Well we’ve got that too but we added some stuff to make it seem exclusive at twice the price.”

In shaky MLM deals “Quick Start Bonus” means “We’ll throw a little your way for signing up your friends and family since we’re not sure if this operation will be around long enough to give you any downline commissions.”

In MLM “I’ll build your downline for you” means “I’ll fill your downline with plenty of other people who want a free ride and who won’t buy product either until some sucker below them does.”

That’s all for now… I’ll see what else hits my email box…

In Sound Off, MLM

This is really great!!! Thanks for sharing.

I’m interested to know how you’d describe the opposite or positive of “Ground Floor”? As long at the compensation plan is sound, the products are good and the company is in for the long haul, isn’t it better to get in at the beginning? Who wants to join a company that’s saturated, like Avon, Tupperware or any of the other ones??
