Since this weblog is about home business and work at home entrepreneurs… where else could I buy fireworks for the 4th of July than from a home based entrepreneur?
I stopped outside the old brick building on Highway 64 East of town at what once might have been a prosperous General Store.
In the years before June 1998, it had been a family run antique shop.
A flood that reached above the 500 year watermark cured that. Now the owner is out of antiques and for July 4th sells a tractor trailer load of fireworks.
Though there are literally a half dozen tents that spring up solely to sell fire works.
Many local folks go by the old general store though. I don’t know if I saved any money but whenever someone comes up to pay, they usually knock a few dollars off everything to make you feel good.
The fireworks at the big tents tent to be more of the “junky” stuff… sparklers, bottle rockets, etc.
The General Store offers bigger fireworks… more color and noise and they can be seen for quite some distance… that’s why the locals keep going back.
And I had the added perk of knowing I was supporting a home based entrepreneur.
The rest of the year he goes to larger flea markets like Nashville and sells things like T shirts.
