A friend of mine was buying some religious videos online at Ebay.
Though he was leery of the address that was only a post office box, he assumed that someone selling religous would be ethical… NOT.
As soon as he placed the order which never came, they closed down their ebay account so they wouldn’t get any negative feedback.
Sometimes this happens time and again with someone opening an account long enough to rip people off, closing that account, and then using a new account at the very same address and Ebay doesn’t seem to do any thing about it despite repeated complaints.
Though businesses using post office boxes are required to leave a “real” address, he hadn’t been able to find that information out as yet… And that assumes that the address given is still valid.
Given the small amount paid compared to the cost of tracking this person down, he’ll probably just “eat” the loss.
Here are some things you can do to protect yourself:
1. Use established dealers with good feedback records
2. Use dealers who list their physical address (make sure it’s not a private mailbox company by googling the address before you buy)
3. Or use Amazon… they take the payments themselves and guarantee your satisfaction.
