Chitika Upgrades Online Shopping Experience

June 23, 2006 by Chuck | 0 Comments

ChitikiaChitika has been around for a while offering bloggers and other websites and alternative revenue stream. Because the “contextual” ads feature can be disabled, it does not violate Google Adsense’s terms of service evidently.

Chitika has always offered a variety of formats, but the recent upgrade allows multiple products to be displayed, not just one. Instead, customers get to preview 4 products, increasing the odds of one striking their fancy.

Chitika pays per click and the more your visitors search, the higher your revenue. With a $10 minimum pay out (when paid by PayPal) you don’t have to wait forever to start seeing revenue if you have regular traffic.

Here’s more from Chitika:

Tips and Tricks:
  • Positioning:  The best location to place this unit is right after the end of your story or blog post and above the comments. Problogger has a wonderful article on eMiniMall optimization.
  • Variety: You can specify multiple queries in the code panel to show a wide variety of products. For example, the demo unit here (http://chitika.com/multi.php) has a “digital camera”, “gps receiver”, “dell laptop” and a “ipod nano” all in one unit.
  • Category Fallback: Dont forget to set a fallback category (in Step 2 of the code panel). If your query does not give 4 products (either because we have no products OR because your query resulted in an exact hit), the fallback category is used to backfill with relevant products from that category.

    Technical Notes:
    • Channels: The channels feature continues to work (so that you can track this unit separately). You can specify a channel using the “Advanced Options” in the code panel (in Step 4)
    • Known Issues: There are some known issues we are working on fixing
      • The unit is currently available only in the 468×180 format. We are working on releasing more formats.
      • Changing the background color works — but might not look nice on some dark background (like black).
