The Small Business Administration’s Office of Advocacy states that home-based businesses generate more than $100 billion in revenue a year, and possibly as much as $500 billion.
From Sacramento Business Journal:
Like millions of Americans, Amy Keuper started a home-based business for lifestyle reasons.
“I wanted to stay home with my kids,” she said.
Keuper runs Paper Bouquet, a wedding-stationery business, out of her San Antonio, Texas, home. She doesn’t make a lot of money — last year’s sales totaled around $80,000, and she netted only 10 percent of that. Her profit margin is low, she said, because she discounts her stationery to convince people to buy from her instead of a regular stationery store.
“Why would anybody go to some crazy lady’s house to buy something? I could be an ax murderer.”
Lots of people, however, are buying goods and services from “crazy” ladies — and men — who operate businesses out of their homes. New research from the Small Business Administration’s Office of Advocacy shows that home-based businesses generate more than $100 billion in revenue a year, and possibly as much as $500 billion.
