An Interesting Use of Google Adsense & Craigslist

May 17, 2006 by Chuck | 3 Comments

I don’t know if this will work long term but who knows. It’s one of those “FYI” posts of things I found interesting and they make my mind try to unravel their riddle.

Take it for what it’s worth… perhaps it can help you boost your adsense revenues and find a new way to use Craigslist.

Here’s the Craigslist Ad I’ll reproduce lest it get deleted…

Note the ~~~~ action that visually set it apart from numerous other Small Biz Ads under “services”.

Then go to the website, http://www.thelittlegiant.net/

You’ll notice it’s a quickly done page that mimics a commercial site with a popular product… the guy is so cheap they even swipe the pictures from http://masswebguide.com/ … they don’t even host them and use up their own bandwidth! (Unless they happen to own that site…don’t know)

The only thing “clickable” for more information is a Google Adsense ad or link box of some sort.

On Overture, the keyword “Little Giant Ladder” goes for up to $3.27 per click at the time of this post.

The Craigslist site is one where ads remain 45 days. I couldn’t find it elsewhere, but maybe didn’t check enough.

So is the listing for traffic? It got me to visit and look deeper.

Is it for link popularity since the ad will remain there a long time?

I’d like to know YOUR THOUGHTS…

I like this idea but is that website in violation of the Adsense TOS?. Granted the site does have a paragraph of content but seems a bit spam-ish.

    Richard, that’s a good point.

I wasn’t necessarily saying “Go thou and do likewise”… I was commenting on what an interesting mix of techniques it displayed.

    Keyword research

    Adsense

    Craigslist

    rolled into one strategy.

To answer your question… yes it probably does because the page only exists to generate clicks and not provide any useful information.

But then again, I did learn about the wide variety of dealers who handle this ladder!

So I agree it seems marginal at best.

    Still interesting.

[...] raigslist is now being used for various purposes aside from posting job wanted and personal ads. It has also become a way to boost one’s Adsense earnings. See this interesting discovery of Chuck Huckaby. [...]
