I say “almost guaranteed” because NOTHING is 100%.
However, because MOST of the programs I sell are sold to OFFline people…I do a lot of OFFline advertising and promotion.
With every new program I introduce I try to get a “FREE WRITE-UP” in a Magazine or Newspaper.
The one way I’ve found to practically “guarantee” I get some “Free Ink” in National Publications is to….
…”GET WRITE-UPS IN MY LOCAL PAPERS!”
“Local” papers are much easier to get written up because I’m a “local” guy. I don’t think I’ve ever NOT been given a Free Write-Up in a “local” paper…in any town I’ve lived in.
Editors and reporters LIKE to give “local” people some space because the articles add to the “home-town flavor”.
Then…I make copies of those write-ups with a copy of the HEADER of the newpaper they appeared in.
NOW…when an editor or reporter gets MY “Press Release”…they see that ANOTHER Editor or Reporter thought enough of MY piece…to give it a write-up….so…this allays their “fears”.
And…since someone else thought MY item was “worthwhile to their readers”…the editor or reporter looking at MY PR will think that their readers will ALSO be worthwhile to their readers….and run it.
You must keep in mind the “REASONS WHY” editors or reporters will run articles….for the BENEFIT of their readers!
And…YOU as the person submitting the Press Release must also keep in mind the READERS of the publications you would like write-ups in.
You MUST APPEAL to the READERS when creating YOUR release.
So….to get more of your Press Releases published;
1) Make your release appeal to the readers
2) Get a write-up in “local” paper first, then include that write-up when sending to other editors/reporters
