You don’t need to take any patient files from the office to do medical billing from home. The information that you will be working with is on what is known as superbills or daysheets. They give you enough information to file the claim so the doctor can get paid for the services they rendered.

Medical coders are the ones that must have the patient files to do their job function. While I do know several people that do this from home you must realize that they are employed by hospitals, large group practices, clinics, etc that have secured networks set up so private information can be seen, sent back and forth, edited on both ends and so on. That being said a patients file never really has to leave a doctors office for the function of medical billing and coding to be completed.
