I’ve been monitoring discussions by some grass roots ethanol producers/users in light of the skyrocketing gasoline prices.
Some interesting points…
=> GM Has more than 1.5 millions “Flex Fuel” vehicles on the road in the US which can use E85 – 85% Ethanol and 15% gasoline. You may not even know you have one unless you go to the link provided.
If your car is already a FlexFuel car you just need to determine the amount of Gas to Ethanol
it can handle. E85 is 85% ethanol with 15% gas, the standard. If your car is rated for E85 you have to add 15% regular gas to your ethanol that you made. Then pour it in.Robert Warren’s site suggest that the first time you convert over to Ethanol you do so with half a tank of regular gas. It takes time for the computer to adjust the fuel injector.
You can see if your late model vehicle is “flex fuel” by going to http://www.eere.energy.gov and clicking on “flex fuel” then “ethanol” then searching for current models to land here…
