Ebay losing the race for Mainland China

Ty Tribble, our Ebay expert notes that the auction platform isn’t doing so well in Mainland China.

SFGate:

EBay has little hope of capturing a bigger share of the Chinese online auction market despite bankrolling a major expansion there, according to the company’s chief Chinese rival.

Jack Ma, chief executive of Alibaba.com, China’s leading Internet marketplace, said that early mistakes by eBay have made it difficult for the company to gain traction in what is an increasingly important beachhead for e-commerce.

“In China, they are gone,” Ma said during an interview Friday with members of The Chronicle’s business staff. “They have made so many mistakes in China — we’re lucky.”

Well as as saying has it: ‘Opportunities are never missed out, they are always taken by someone else’. This eBay customer-missleading surely has costed them millions; one of them customer who turned his back onto them was me and my small business of Denim Clothing. I’m a small fish among them power-sellers, who has been searching again and again for another marketplace that offers a better mix. I moved to eBay from Yahoo! and now I found myself at a new marketplace after a long search. Silkfair.com, I’ve been around and found what I was looking for. It is relatively new, but as a long time e-shopper I had to wait in other places until traffic was created. My advaise too all those eBay ‘dislikers’ (to put it into a polite manner) don’t be afarid to try new interfaces It’s just a matter of a short wait until new sites take off! Go around and enjoy the web, play around until you get what you ae looking for I know I did! Good Luck
