There is a very reliable and inexpensive alternative for high speed access for those who live in the country. I use Skyway satelite internet service. They are only $139 for the equipment and I am paying $29 a month for 256k speed. They do have other options for higher speed, but the $29 plan works great for me. Their site is www.satellite4internet.com

Eureka...I'm glad to report there is a new solution. I purchased a place in the country about a year ago and options for Internet were dial-up or a Satellite TV company connection (don't remember name) but the cost was going to be $799 for hardware and $75/mth with not alot of reliability during inclement weather. Mid-March 2006 a new product became available. It is Wildblue.Net. I've had Wildblue installed about a month and the service has been great. (Even through the storms we've endured here in the midwest over the past month.) Initial costs are $299 for dish and then around $55 for slowest connection speed. Which has been fine for me. For comparison, I'm coming from Charter Cable Internet and really haven't seen any difference. P.S. I've even pushed the envelope to incorporate a Belkin router and created a 2 computer wireless LAN.

In my mind if you have electric...for a price...you now have internet.

tell me about it. I'm from a third world country and barely surviving because of my dialup connection. :-(
