Beware This Clever Phishing Email About PayPal

March 13, 2006 by Chuck | 0 Comments

Just when you thought you were immune to all the phishing emails, a sneaky one pops in.

PayPal and Ebay are tools that allow many home businesses to EXIST…without them, many would not be ale to stay open.

That’s why this type of fraud is the most pernicious.

This one looks ALMOST like a Pay Pal email you receive when adding a new email to your account.

It makes you think to yourself … “O my goodness, someone just added their email to my account!”

If you click the alleged paypal link, the actual url you’re going to is bogus…

Not a secure paypal link, but

http://rrcs-24-242-158-134.sw.biz.rr.com:82/cmd/index.php

a bogus site. That’s why it’s not hot linked.

You can check for phishing if the email appears real by looking at the html source of your email.

It’s THERE that the link which appears to be paypal.com’s is revealed to be a criminal fraud attempt.

If there’s any question EVER, go to the site and log in yourself. Never trust the email link.

Even the clever ones like this one.

In other words, to be sure, just go directly to paypal.com and log in. Then check your profile by clicking on your email address to see if someone has indeed added themselves to your account.

They hadn’t in mine.

But it IS a clever ruse.

Note: I didn’t go to the site because of possible spyware, scumware, attacks.

When you get this, note the URL and forward it to the proper legal authorities.
