John Stossell yesterday documented how an 18 year old South Carolina student still couldn’t read after spending 12 years in public school.
South Carolina spends $9,000 per year per student.
In 72 hours of tutoring (paid for by the investigative journalist) by Sylvan a franchised tutoring service, he was reading 2 grade levels higher.
If you’d been doing the tutoring at just $20 per hour, that’d be nearly $1500.
Stossel’s article shows that the need for tutoring is as great or greater even after “No Child Left Behind”.
