Byron Township Michigan says that the business must be IN the home, not in “auxiliary” buildings on the home’s plot.

This means that pole barns, garages, and other out buildings on a property are not legal home businesses.

Gould said he is most concerned about offices are established in accessory buildings or garages.

Township planner Larry Nix said the current home businesses probably are not a problem.

“But I can see where it could become a problem very easily in the future,” he said.

Nix said home business are only legal now if they are in the home. Any business in an accessory building violates ordinances.
