From the Missourian…
On a typical morning, for example, Gabe DeArmond gets his 8-year-old son, Taten Lyngstad, ready and off to school. DeArmond spends the rest of the morning taking care of Turner, until his wife, Janel, who works part time as a production assistant at KOMU-TV, comes home about noon.
Janel takes care of Turner in the afternoon and of Taten after he gets home from school while Gabe covers MU’s football and basketball teams and other major events for the Web site he publishes, www.PowerMizzou.com.
Circumstances turned DeArmond into a stay-at-home father — he lost his job while living in South Dakota when Turner was 6 months old. He remains one because his job allows it.
“I work from home and set my own hours, DeArmond said.
He arranges his schedule around Turner, and few conflicts arise, because DeArmond’s only firm obligations are afternoon and weekend practices and games, when his wife is home.
Taking care of Turner is a bigger job than publishing the Web site, DeArmond said. “He’s my boss in the morning, he said. “I’m a lot less stressed out and busy when I’m actually working than when I’m watching and chasing him.
