Summer’s quickly approaching so - Aussies - like everyone are wondering…”How do I put some more money in my pocket?”
Here’s a few of the more novel ideas…though I’m not vouching for any of them!
1 Enter a poker tournament. Australian Joe Hachem won $US7.5 million in a Las Vegas poker tournament last year. Many are open to anyone who can put up an entry fee, which can be as little as $200.
2 Buy soccer world cup tickets. Although organisers say tickets will not be transferable, there is sure to be a lucrative secondary market for any lucky ticket holders.
12 Collect used cooking oils and fats. These can be used as an ingredient for biodiesel fuel. Production is increasing as motorists look for an alternative way to run their car during a time of high oil prices.
14 Turn your service into a product. Service companies are always limited by the number of people they employ and the number of hours in the day. Smart companies turn the intellectual property from their services businesses into products such as software, web sites or publications.
34 Start a pet rental business. Busy people can rent a pet for a few weeks or months and hand them back before they starve or run off. This would be particularly good for that pet day at school when children have to take an animal for show-and-tell.
38 Start a coffee bar. A cup of coffee costs about 20-30¢ to make and sells for $2-3. Enough said.
54 Invest in anything to do with hafnium. An obscure element sometimes found in association with zircon and titanium minerals, hafnium is an essential ingredient in the control rods used in nuclear power plants. If nuclear takes off, so will the hafnium industry.
56 Establish a fertility health farm. One of the reasons couples cite for not being able to conceive is that they are too busy. Why not spend a few weeks in a romantic setting, with medical supervision, and let love do the rest.
66 Invent a stupid mobile-phone ring tone. The highly annoying “crazy frog” ring tone spent four weeks at the top of the British music charts this year and the Australian ring-tone market is valued at $120 million a year.
78 Move to Dubai. Get a well-paid job (it is not hard in the most affluent country on earth), get paid in US dollars and pay no income tax. It is hard to buy booze and to gamble, so your outgoings should be low too.

“Smart companies turn the intellectual property from their services businesses into products such as software, web sites or publications.”
I’m having trouble wrapping my brain around this concept. Does anyone have any examples of turning a service into a product?

The information about any service can be turned into an information product.
As a handy man, you can make $25 per hour. As Bob Villa, you’re an “empire” with revenues from TV, endorsements, royalties, appearance fees, etc.

Here is an example for you -
I work as a marketing consultant helping people to use blogs to market there business. Currently I work face-to-face, over the phone and through email to provide my services.
To convert that into a product I write an ebook and/or record an audio that teaches what I know. I can sell as many of these products as possible without increasing my labor which certainly isn’t the case when I provide the services.
There are countless other examples like this in almost every industry.
