For many laid off workers, the lay off spells the end of a “life”. Post lay off existence usually means they’ll never recover their wages or enjoy life quite that much again. To be sure, I’m describing the existence of many blue collar factory workers… not laid off “execs” per se.
Ms. Kelly’s story however reminds us that there’s a life after the lay off. ..

Big things can come out of small office spaces. When I was laid off in early 2002, this life-changing event gave me the perfect opportunity to go after a lifelong dream to write a dating book and help people with relationships in a big way.
I counted my savings, set up a home office, started writing and attended seminars with leaders in the book business. Seven months later, I self-published “SMART Man Hunting” and went back to a corporate day job. I learned how to juggle executive meetings with radio interviews promoting the book. In one breath I was giving advice on kisses and, in the next, I reviewed corporate budgets and staffing.
Last summer, I shifted to working full-time on my passion. While building the business, I quickly discovered that technology allowed me to operate in a very small space. I can accomplish a lot in a 200-square-foot living room/office with a wireless laptop, CD burner, printer and telephone.
