New Zealand Telecom has named the Home Business of the Year…

A Nelson company that started as a one-man business and now employs more than 100 staff has won the Telecom Home Business of the Year Award.

Sunrise Cleaning Services was named overall winner of the award, as well as the winner of the business excellence section earlier this week.

Bruce Farley set up in business 19 years ago as a self-employed cleaner, and now co-owns the business with wife Phillipa Rutherford.

Sunrise is one of the biggest commercial cleaners in Nelson, with 100 staff servicing more than 100 clients.

The awards were announced as part of National Home Business Week, which finishes on Friday.

Telecom’s home business programme was established in 1999 to assist people who run their businesses from home.

Ms Rutherford said the award was recognition of the work the couple put into ensuring the business remained viable.

“It is a competent business, and it’s good to know other people think so.”
