The Truth About Doing Surveys At Home

October 14, 2005 by Chuck | 8 Comments

I have received lots of questions about “Paid Online Surveys”… are they a “scam”?

The short answer is “no” but I’ll qualify that in a moment.

In just the last year, I’ve made $80 from SurveySavvy.com – no fortune by any means. But given the time I’ve put into it, I can’t complain. It’s time I’d have otherwise wasted.

Most people start out by paying a fee to join a survey membership site.

The fees average around $27 to $35 and most people earn their money back quickly enough.

The “scam question” arises because promoters of these sites highlight the focus groups that do pay great chunks of change ($70 isn’t uncommon) for a few hours work.

But just because you COULD make $35 per hour on the above focus group, don’t think you’ll be able to do that 40 hours per week or even once per week.

And your results will vary based on whether you fit the “profile” the advertiser is targeting. Women tend to have more opportunities than men in my opinion.

If your choice is between doing surveys or something with a more consistent income potential, choose the latter.

If your choice be between making $5 by doing a survey or wasting time watching TV, do the survey!

If you want extra fun money weekly and aren’t talking about “survival money” this may be right up your alley.

To help those testing the “Paid Online Suvey” waters, I put up a page listing a number of survey companies that cost nothing to join.

    Hi Chuck,

Came accross your blog while searching for paid surveys info. It’s so true what you say about some companies just highlighting the “juicy bits”

One has to be carefull when making choices in this field as they’re a few black shhep around.

I’ve always found a good rule of thumb to start out with is searching the clickbank Karktetplace for top sellers and make sure theyve been around for some time, so I can check for feedback on forums and in Google.

Otherewise, paid surveys are a cool way of maing some extra cash, been doing it a while myself and like you I can’t complain for the little time I do put into it.

    Have a good one mate!

Need someone to give more evidence that you can make money

Andy, you just need to test a free site and see if your demographic is popular with survey companies.

That’s the only evidence you should consider. It’d say it’s pocket change for you but may be worth it.

I applied to several free survey sites thinking I could supplement my home business. I only received a few surveys, and they wanted to pay with points.
