In the mid-1980s, Dave and Teresa Nolander started Marketing Plus, then a direct- mail company, out of their home as a way for Teresa to help out the family income while she was home with their children.
Throughout the years, the company grew to include more services, including the “Make Cents and More” coupon books.
“We continue to do a lot of direct mail for folks all over the upper Midwest,” said Dave Nolander, president and general manager. “We also began doing advertising services where we now take on clients and do all of their budgeting, placement and creative work. We are like an ad agency without the commissions.”
Now the Nolanders want to help other in-home businesses take the same step. They are renting out office space on the top floor of their building.
“We are trying to find some folks who want to take a leap of faith and go to the next level,” Dave said. “When we went out looking for spots it was pretty spendy and by the time you figure rent, utilities, insurance, phone and Internet, it gets even worse. Here all of that is already done for you. All they would have to pay for is rent, their long distance and photo copies.”
